Shani is from Murtaugh, Idaho, where she grew up on a farm surrounded by animals of all sorts. It wasn’t difficult for her to develop a passion for pet care early on in life! Ever since her childhood days of finding stray kittens and nursing them back to health, Shani knew that a career in the world of veterinary medicine would be the perfect path for her.

After her family relocated to Twin Falls, Shani moved to Boise in 2004 and has lived there ever since. She worked at another local veterinary clinic for five years before joining the River City Veterinary Hospital family in 2010. After a short stint in human medicine, Shani returned to the team in 2016 as a receptionist, and couldn’t be happier to serve the pets and animal owners of the area alongside her dedicated and compassionate coworkers.

Shani and her husband have two beautiful daughters, who are already huge animal lovers just like their mother. As a family, they enjoy hiking, camping, and enjoying the company of their own pets. Shani and her family share their lives with a black Labrador named Boone, a cat, a rabbit, and a squadron of four chickens.

Maddy is a sensitive soul whose greatest ambition is to advocate for animals and pets who can’t speak for themselves. Her drive and determination has carried her through tough times, leaving her even more dedicated to the animals she treats and supervises. Upon the sudden passing of her Chow-Chow/Cocker Spaniel, Snoopy, Maddy knew that spending her life improving the quality of life and well-being of animals was her true calling.

Maddy was born in Portland, Oregon and moved to Mountain Home and then Meridian when she was young. She earned her Associates of Applied Sciences in Veterinary Technology from the College of Southern Idaho, then immediately began working here at River City Veterinary Hospital.

Maddy’s favorite parts of the job so far are getting to work with her team (a.k.a. her new family!) and being given the opportunity to help and love on animals all day long. Her passion is working with exotics (foxes, hedgehogs, chinchillas, small lizards, bearded dragons, owls, snakes, ferrets, etc.), but every canine friend who trots through the door finds a special spot in her heart. She adores getting to bring her best friend Dean, a Pit Bull, to work with her every day, and loves long walks on the beach with him. When there isn’t a beach around, her neighborhood will do. In Maddy’s down time, her new kitten Gus Gus loves to drive her crazy with his wild antics and noisy cat toys, and there is nothing she likes more than snuggling with her two fuzzy kids while watching movies.

As a child, Becca dreamed of working in veterinary medicine; ultimately, she found herself in the human nursing field at the outset of her career. Although she loved the scientific aspect of her work and the immense satisfaction of helping others, she knew that something was still missing. That something was animals! Becca decided to switch paths, and now happily serves both pets and their owners daily as a Veterinary Technician.

Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Becca moved to Idaho with her family when she was only 10 years old. After her stint in the human healthcare field, she joined Brown Mackie College’s veterinary technology program, where she earned her Associate’s degree in animal science. Becca then began an externship right here at River City Veterinary Hospital in the summer of 2016, where she learned on-the-job from her skilled and compassionate coworkers. When she was offered a job during the final days of her externship, Becca didn’t hesitate!

Dentistry work is one of Becca’s favorite parts of the job—she loves to provide preventative healthcare measures in order to make sure a pet’s mouth stays healthy. She’s also fond of surgery and laboratory work, and has a special fondness for studying blood samples. Most of all, Becca enjoys meeting pet owners just like herself on a regular basis.

When she’s not at work, Becca can be found fishing, reading, and spending time with her family at home. She has a wild, independent, and spirited young daughter who is already shaping up to be just as much of an animal-lover as her mother. The family shares their lives with a rescued Beagle, Muffin, who may be the quietest dog of her breed to be found anywhere; and a gentle Great Dane/Labrador mix named Sable.

Kendra grew up alongside dogs, cats, and horses, and always felt an intrinsic connection with animals. The older she got, the more her passion blossomed—Kendra simply can’t imagine working in any other field! She’s a Certified Veterinary Technician with the River City Veterinary Hospital team.

After learning as much as she could about animals through her agriculture courses in high school, Kendra began volunteering at an animal clinic in Nyssa, Oregon to gain hands-on experience in the world of pet care. In the fall of 2013, she began her studies in veterinary technology at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, serving pets and their owners at a nearby veterinary clinic during her free time. Kendra graduated in May of 2015, and passed her certification exams that fall to become a Certified Veterinary Technician.

Kendra moved back to this area in the summer of 2016 to be closer to family, and joined the River City Veterinary Hospital team in July of that year. She has a particular fondness for dental cleanings, and never tires of improving a pet’s oral health through proper dental care. When she first started working in an animal kennel in 1999, Tasha realized just how much she adored caring for animals. After serving in the kennel for a few years, the facility’s groomer encouraged Tasha to take up grooming herself. Tasha learned the basic skills, taught herself how to perform advanced scissoring work, and has been happily grooming pets ever since!

Originally from New Plymouth, Idaho, Tasha started her veterinary career at the Humane Society in Nevada before moving back home and taking a kennel job in Boise. She stayed there for nearly 17 years, 13 of which were spent honing her grooming skills. After being invited to join the River City Veterinary Hospital clinic team by her former co-worker, Janel, Tasha signed on in July of 2014 and couldn’t be happier.

Tasha and her husband have three pets at home: a German shepherd/husky mix who can still run like she’s a puppy; a five-year-old Shih Tzu who can make anyone give him a treat; and an elderly Shih Tzu who turns in a lot of circles. When she isn’t grooming pets here at the hospital or spending time with her own, Tasha enjoys camping and fishing with her husband. Their most memorable experience occurred in Washington State, where they went salmon fishing and ended up maxing out the boat’s capacity!

Animal care was simply a natural part of life for Crystal while growing up—in addition to her own dogs at home, her uncle kept horses and her grandmother owned birds for many years. Crystal has wanted to put her compassionate spirit and adoration of animals to good use ever since she can remember!

Crystal was born and raised here in Boise. She worked a variety of jobs in the area, developing her skills in customer service and also serving as a lead teacher for a local daycare facility, before joining the River City Veterinary Hospital team in early 2016. She loves bonding with the clinic’s boarding dogs; she knows she’s done her job if the dogs are happy and worn out by the end of the day!

Crystal is married and has two daughters—the eldest of which is studying to be a veterinary technician herself—and a stepson who lives in Alaska. At home, the family has three dogs: Kalia, a yellow Lab; a Springer Spaniel named Tucker whose bark is worse than his bite; and a Pomeranian who goes by Little Bear. They also own a trio of cats: Hainsley, who moved in without an invite; a rambunctious, tiger-striped grey kitten; and Lilly, the mother of the bunch.

Outside of her interests in the veterinary world, Crystal enjoys practicing her photography skills whenever she gets the chance. She loves being able to express her love for nature and animals through her photos! Crystal also likes camping in the great outdoors and going pheasant hunting with Kalia.
