It has come to our attention that there have been confirmed positive cases of canine influenza in the Treasure Valley.
As a proactive and protective step for your pets, we are recommending that every dog in your household be vaccinated for CIV (canine influenza virus). We are also requiring that all dogs that come to daycare or are scheduled for boarding be vaccinated. The current vaccine has been shown to be very effective and can help protect your family member.
Canine Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory disease that is similar to human influenza. It is spread from dog to dog through:
- Direct contact: when dogs kiss, lick or nuzzle each other
- Through the air: from a cough or sneeze
- Contaminated objects: doggie bowls, toys, doorknobs or clothing
- Human touch: hands of pet owners, veterinary clinic staff or shelter workers
